found on honey bees in Hawai`i!

On April 6, 2007, the parasitic mite Varroa destructor was detected on honey bees in Hawai`i for the first time.

Do not move any managed honey bee colonies within the City and County of Honolulu or between islands until further notice!

NOTICE OF HBA REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Monday, November 30, 2009

Aloha na hoa: our 2009 Annual Meeting will be held at Michael Kliks' home at 6:00 pm on Monday, November 30. The address is 3081G Paty Drive, at the makai end of Paty Drive on the Woodlawn side of Manoa Valley.

We will be reviewing our successes and failures in dealing with Varroa mites, viruses, the HDOA, and other pests.

We will also take orders for items needed by our members that are related the IPM (integrated pest management) of Varroa so that we can make a group purchase from both Dadant and Pierco (plastic frames). We will also discuss the probable impact of Varroa both on O`ahu and now on the Big Island. . .and most likely on Maui soon.

Please bring light snacks. . .mead and metheglins will be provided!

Because of all of the Varroa control related benefits that the HBA has provided its effected members, our funds are severely drawn down at this time. It is urgent that all members WRITE YOUR CHECK FOR $12 (Associate) or $15 (Regular) AS YOUR 2010 DUES, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, AND IT MAIL TO : HBA TREASURER, 3081G PATY DRIVE, HONOLULU, HI, 96822.
